What it means
Twilio says this means the Tax ID in your business profile does not match details such as your legal company name. Until it is fixed you cannot create a campaign with that brand.
Common causes Twilio lists: a wrong EIN, a personal Social Security number entered instead of an EIN, or a business name that does not exactly match the name the IRS has for that EIN. Short forms, a missing "Inc." or "LLC", and a DBA (trade name) all cause mismatches.
What to fix
- Find your IRS EIN letter (the CP 575, or a 147C letter if you lost it). Twilio says to use the name on that letter, not the name on a W-2 or W-9.
- Type the legal name exactly as it appears there. If it spans several lines above the address, include all of them.
- Check the EIN is your business number, not a personal Social Security number.
- Fix the business profile (Twilio calls it the Customer Profile), not just the brand. Twilio says the mistake is almost always in the profile.
- Then resubmit the brand. Twilio says a failed brand can be resubmitted up to three times at no extra charge.
- If your EIN is new, Twilio says it can take 30 to 90 days to show up in the records reviewers check. If everything already matches, you can appeal through Twilio Support with your EIN letter; Twilio says that manual review has a $10 fee.
Checklist before you resubmit
- EIN letter (CP 575 or 147C) in hand
- Legal name copied exactly, with Inc., LLC and punctuation
- Business EIN, not a Social Security number
- No trade name (DBA) in the legal name field
- Business profile corrected, then brand resubmitted
