What it means
Twilio says this rejection means the opt-in details in your campaign do not clearly show how people agree to get texts from you. The opt-in description is the field Twilio calls the message flow. In the Console it is the question about how end users consent to receive messages.
Twilio lists common causes: the description does not say who opts in, where, or how; you use more than one sign-up method but only described some; a sign-up page is not public or is missing privacy policy and terms links; or the description is a one-line summary of a verbal or paper sign-up.
What to fix
- Rewrite the opt-in description from start to finish: where the person sees the offer, what they read, and what they do to agree. If there is more than one way to sign up, describe every one.
- If people sign up on a website, give the link to that page plus links to your privacy policy and terms.
- If the sign-up is behind a login, on paper, or in person, give a public link to a screenshot or copy of the exact form and wording.
- If people can text a keyword to join, give the exact keyword, the number they text, and the reply they get back. Twilio says that reply should name your business, confirm they joined, say how to get help and how to stop.
- Make sure the wording people see when they agree names your business and says what texts they will get.
- Then edit and resubmit the campaign. Twilio says a rejected campaign can be edited and resubmitted, and the vetting fee is charged once per campaign, so editing is better than deleting and starting over.
Checklist before you resubmit
- Every sign-up method is described
- Each description says where, what the person sees, and what they do
- Links to the sign-up page, privacy policy and terms are included and public
- Screenshots are linked for any sign-up that a reviewer cannot open
- Keyword sign-up lists the keyword, the number and the reply text
- The consent wording names your business and the kind of texts
